This Little Piggy Went to Market and This Little Piggy Used Scan It!!

Like most mommies, I have to go to the market or grocery store at least 1 - 2 times a week to feed my family. I have always always always hated it. Particularly, I hate filling up my cart, searching for prices, searching for sales items...then taking EVERYTHING out of my cart putting it on the belt, waiting for the cashier to ring it all up, bagging it all up.... and then, putting everything BACK into the cart (all while a screaming child is pulling candy off the display next to the cashier).

Well...... no more!! Stop & Shop Supermarkets have a new in store service that is called SCAN IT! Here is the deal, you scan your card at the kiosk as you walk into the store, you pick up your flashing handheld scanner. It is like a scanner you might use to register for your wedding. Then you open up your bags, and off you go. As you take items off the shelf, you zap an item with the scanner. Immediately the price comes up, the sale if any shows up, and it has a running tally of how much you have spent. You have now eliminated all the crazy in between steps. You bag as you shop and best of all you can use your own recyclable bags.

If you decide you do not want an item, no problem! Just remove it from the cart, zap it with the scanner, hit remove, and move on. The device lets you check the price of an item before you decide to buy it. This is great for these difficult times. Basically the scanner reads the bar code on the item, just as if you were swiping at the checkout counter.

One really cool aspect is that since the scanner links to your own personal Stop & Shop card, the scanner offers you targeted products that are on sale as you walk down the isles. For example, if you buy diapers and baby food all the time, the scanner makes this great cash register cha ching sound, notifying you of a sale.

Checking out of the store is a breeze! You walk up to the check out, scan your personal card, scan your remote pay and you are done. Everything is already tallied and bagged. The amount of time this saves is amazing.

I find that I actually buy less and save more when I use the SCAN IT! devise. I know exactly how much I am spending at every moment, and I can take advantage of the great sales.
